Seeking God's Direction

"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.  For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." -Colossians 1:9-14
Sometimes we find ourselves at a place in our lives when we don't know what to do. For some it's not knowing what to do after college or being torn making a decision, and for some it's struggling with finances or deciding how to raise children. The best we can do in these confusing and unsure times is to seek the Lord's wisdom and direction. Depending on what we are struggling with, this can be difficult. Sometimes we don't try enough to hear that small voice, especially when we're being stubborn it's harder to hear that whisper in the wind. Even though we may think we're doing all the right things. Maybey we aren't doing them the right way or with the right heart. Some of you might have the idea that there isn't a wrong or right way to be with God and hear him when he calls. And you are right there is no right or wrong way to pray and all that jazz, but if we're not focused when we're praying and we let our minds wonder then we're not really spending time with God, focused on God and out relationship with him.

Let me back track a bit. We make ourselves available to spend time with God. In our time with the Lord we talk to him sharing everything that's on our hearts like our hopes, fears, sorrows, excitement, questions, frustrations- everything. And he talks to us sharing his love, grace, comfort, forgiveness, and wisdom- revealing his will for us, giving us one piece of the puzzle at a time. We do this via meditation, prayer, quiet time, walking/running, etc. Me for example, I go running. It's usually a time when I can clear my head and really focus on Christ. There have been times when I've gone for a run hoping to clear my head, but when I came back my head was just as scrammbled as it was when I left, if not more scrammbled. This is because even though I was doing the right thing, I wasn't doing it the right way. I wasn't willing to let some of those things running around in my head go, I was holding onto them trying to sort them out myself. I would put my ipod on when I went running and daydream about how I wished things would be, instead of talking to Jesus and listening to how he wants things to be. So when I would come back from my run, I didn't feel any progress was made in my relationship with Christ nor was any of the craziness inside of my head sorted out. You tracking?

I don't know where you are in your journey with Jesus, but my prayer for you is that you seek the Lord's direction and wisdom in all that you do. Give God all your cares and worries, and he will never fail you no matter how often we might fail him; as long as we turn to him, he will always be there to welcome you with open arms. God - Loves - You.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, be must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." -James 1:5-6
