OPPORTUNITY by: Walter Malone (1866-1915)
THEY do me wrong who say I come no more
When once I knock and fail to find you in;
For every day I stand outside your door
And bid you wake, and rise to fight and win.
Wail not for precious chances passed away!
Weep not for golden ages on the wane!
Each night I burn the records of the day–
At sunrise every soul is born again!
Dost thou behold thy lost youth all aghast?
Dost reel from righteous Retribution’s blow?
Then turn from blotted archives of the past
And find the future’s pages white as snow.
Art thou a mourner? Rouse thee from thy spell;
Art thou a sinner? Sins may be forgiven;
Each morning gives thee wings to flee from hell,
Each night a star to guide thy feet to heaven.
Laugh like a boy at splendors that have sped,
To vanished joys be blind and deaf and dumb;
My judgments seal the dead past with its dead,
But never bind a moment yet to come.
Though deep in mire, wring not your hands and weep;
I lend my arm to all who say “I can!”
No shame-faced outcast ever sank so deep
But yet might rise and be again a man!

Patience
"What does patience feel like?
It's a subtle unfolding with time as your ally. You feel relaxed and trust that it will all work out, even if in this very moment, there's no clear path to the end.
It feels like the subtle uneasiness of allowing all you're uncomfortable with to be exactly as it is."
Thanks Mastin Kipp :)

Seeking God's Direction
"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." -Colossians 1:9-14Sometimes we find ourselves at a place in our lives when we don't know what to do. For some it's not knowing what to do after college or being torn making a decision, and for some it's struggling with finances or deciding how to raise children. The best we can do in these confusing and unsure times is to seek the Lord's wisdom and direction. Depending on what we are struggling with, this can be difficult. Sometimes we don't try enough to hear that small voice, especially when we're being stubborn it's harder to hear that whisper in the wind. Even though we may think we're doing all the right things. Maybey we aren't doing them the right way or with the right heart. Some of you might have the idea that there isn't a wrong or right way to be with God and hear him when he calls. And you are right there is no right or wrong way to pray and all that jazz, but if we're not focused when we're praying and we let our minds wonder then we're not really spending time with God, focused on God and out relationship with him.
Let me back track a bit. We make ourselves available to spend time with God. In our time with the Lord we talk to him sharing everything that's on our hearts like our hopes, fears, sorrows, excitement, questions, frustrations- everything. And he talks to us sharing his love, grace, comfort, forgiveness, and wisdom- revealing his will for us, giving us one piece of the puzzle at a time. We do this via meditation, prayer, quiet time, walking/running, etc. Me for example, I go running. It's usually a time when I can clear my head and really focus on Christ. There have been times when I've gone for a run hoping to clear my head, but when I came back my head was just as scrammbled as it was when I left, if not more scrammbled. This is because even though I was doing the right thing, I wasn't doing it the right way. I wasn't willing to let some of those things running around in my head go, I was holding onto them trying to sort them out myself. I would put my ipod on when I went running and daydream about how I wished things would be, instead of talking to Jesus and listening to how he wants things to be. So when I would come back from my run, I didn't feel any progress was made in my relationship with Christ nor was any of the craziness inside of my head sorted out. You tracking?
I don't know where you are in your journey with Jesus, but my prayer for you is that you seek the Lord's direction and wisdom in all that you do. Give God all your cares and worries, and he will never fail you no matter how often we might fail him; as long as we turn to him, he will always be there to welcome you with open arms. God - Loves - You.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, be must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." -James 1:5-6More verses to read when seeking God's direction:
1 Kings 3:1-14
Proverbs 2:1-6
Romans 12:1-3
Ephesians 5:15-17
To all who are weary...
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
This was written by Paul in a letter to the Galatians. I know how hard it is to be good sometimes. It can be tiring and painful and sometimes it can break your heart.
But it is worth it. Or at least, it will be.

The Measure of Love
“Love is measured by what you’re willing to sacrifice for the one you love.” -James FordI disagree with the James Ford. Love is not measured by what we are willing to give up for the one(s) we love.
Let's say a homeless person approaches me and a friend, while walking downtown, and asks us for money. My friend gives the homeless person $10 when I only give him/her $5. This doesn't necessarily mean the measure of my friend's love is greater for the homeless person than my love for the homeless because my friend sacrificed more money than me.
OR
Hypothetically: Let's say I dream of marrying my boyfriend and living in South Carolina. Let's say my boyfriend dreams of being a music composer for christian music artists, while living in Ohio. However, he would consider maybe moving to South Carolina someday. Let's say I turn down my job offers in South Carolina to remain in Ohio and marry my boyfriend and maybe one day we could potentially move to South Carolina. This does not mean the measure in which I love my boyfriend is more than the measure of his love for me just because I was willing to sacrifice one of my dreams for one of his. And visa versa, if he were to sacrifice living in Ohio to live in South Carolina with me (after marriage, of course).
Now let's look a little deeper into the idea of measuring love. If love is measured by what one is willing to sacrifice for another, who is to say the worth of what one is sacrificing. Who will judge that sacrificing my dream for my boyfriend is of greater measure than my friend giving $10 to the homeless? Or who is even to say that my friend giving $10 is greater than me giving $5 to the homeless.?
Secondly, who would honestly be keeping track? Do a husband and wife honestly keep a document of who sacrifice what and when, and whose turn it will be to sacrifice next when they come to a fork in the road in which one will have to sacrifice something? NO!
The only judge whose verdict matters is the Lord's and he does not measure by the sacrifices we make but by our hearts when we make sacrifices for others.

Can You [God] Do What You Say You Can Do
Letting all if this go
Letting all of me show
I've got nothing left to lose
Getting tired of the fight
God I need a place to hide
I've got a broken soul tonight
and the silence is so thick
it's filling up my life
it's coming from the creveses
and spilling out the side
and I'm left reading all these lies
plaguing my mind
Can you do what you say you can do?
Take shattered dreams and make them new?
Can you be who you say you can be?
A friend for me?
Letting all of this go
letting all of me show
I've got nothing left ot lose
(as sung by Dana Masters in Song and Word The Lie)
Set free from lies. A new mind. Turth resides.

Mass Media & Society
These are just some of the reasons why I enjoy Mass Media & Society class:
Britney: "Warm fuzzies!"
Andrew: "Warm fuzzies...It's like cuddling without someone."
(minutes later)...
Andrew: "Take one genre and another genre, put 'em in bed and see what you get.
The new genre is the results of the marriage of genre 1 and genre 2 after you put 'em in bed."
